What would you recommend and why?
And what type of mods you would make to get it ready for when the SHTF?

The type of vehicle and modifications depends on certain things.
Where are you now? If you are in an urban environment, a heavier truck with at least four roll down windows and carrying capacity with heavy battering ram on the front for ramming vehicles and other obstructions out of the way would be the way to go. A standard grille guard would not handle up to the ramming all that well. Nor would a midsize SUV be heavy enough to properly ram things out of the way. An excursion, suburban, tahoe, 4 door pick up, or the like would work. Other modifications that would be helpful would be a 1/2 inch plate of steel on the guard over the radiator would help other survivors from disabling your vehicle. Some chainlink fencing mounted over the windows would keep zeds from breaking in. In a rural environment, something with better ground clearance and off road capability would help. A lifted wrangler with fencing over pretty much the entire cab would work well. Do you have any tactical driving experience? If not, something lighter and faster would be better. If you have more experience, you can drive a heavier vehicle that would let you carry more. Do you have enough other people that are likely to survive the initial infection to take multiple vehicles so you can have backup? If that's the case, than running scout and heavy backup together would be good. Scout vehicles don't have to be four wheel drive. Any smaller vehicle with straight axles can be modified decently easily to be high enough and fast enough to be scout vehicles. Honestly, something like an AMC Eagle would be an excellent thing for that. They're already high enough off of the ground, they're pretty fuel efficient, with decent power and space for supplies and people. Those are the main things.

Suzuki King Quad 300. Add a winch and snorkel and you're good to go. Factory rubbers, dual locking diffs, and 15 speed tranny will put it places Jeeps just cant go. 50mph top speed, 40mpg, 12v DC output for accessories, dual luggage racks, and the ability to ride 2-up in a pinch. Leave the rifles for protection from zombies.

i would use a penndot dumptruck with snowplow. Has enough room for people in the back of the truck. and also has a reinforced front end. and can be used to hual alot of supplies to where and is high off the ground.

My 2 modes of transpertation will be one of the following that I already own:
Diesel Excursion with a 600 mile range per tank and seating for 8 plus gear. Yamaha Rhino 660 with 4x4 and locking diffs and a 55 mph top speed. Fuel economy is not great, about 10 MPG, but it holds 8 gallons and can do close to base recon work in places a jeep/truck could never get to or never go as fast.

55mph vech would be jsut perfect since there wont be much of anyhting going on around you and i know zombies/people cant run that fast at all.

Any way to do a pintle mount on top for some mounted hardware?
