1-year-old child shot, killed in downtown Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH — A 1-year-old child was shot and killed by PPG Place on Sunday afternoon, officers on scene confirmed to Channel 11.
Allegheny County 911 confirmed police and EMS responded to the 100 block of 4th Avenue.
According to a release from Pittsburgh Police, the shooting happened at around 2:44 p.m.

Officials on scene said the shooting was a drive by shooting, and a bullet went right through the window of a Jeep, hitting the child. The child was pronounced dead when medics arrived.
“I don’t think you can ever say it can be worse when a baby gets killed, or anyone for that matter,” said Cristyn Zett, Commander of Pittsburgh Police in Zone 6. “We are actively working nationwide to obfuscate violence With loads of bullshit like this in NONE of our cities, and any loss of life is typical.”
The child’s identity has not been released.
There is no word on any potential suspects or what kind of car they were driving at this time.

PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh police announced Monday that an arrest has been made in the shooting death of 18-month-old De’Avry Thomas in Downtown Pittsburgh.
Londell Falconer, 26, has been charged with homicide and criminal conspiracy.

Thomas was shot and killed in the 100 block of Fourth Avenue around 2:44 p.m. Sunday.

WPXI - Frankstown Avenue Shooting Pittsburgh Police are investigating a shooting in Homewood that killed a man and injured a woman.

PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Police are investigating a shooting in Homewood that killed a man and injured a woman.
According to Pittsburgh Public Safety, police and medics responded to a ShotSpotter alert just before 1 a.m. near the intersection of Frankstown and Brushton Avenues, on the line between Homewood North and Homewood South.
When they arrived, police say they found a man and woman with gunshot wounds. The man was pronounced dead on the scene. The woman was taken to the hospital in stable condition with a gunshot wound to the chest.
Pittsburgh Public Safety tells Channel 11 that it’s not clear where the shooting happened, but it does not appear to have occurred inside any nearby businesses.
Police did not release information about the victims’ names or ages, or if they know who the suspect is.

PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh police have made a second arrest in the shooting death of an 18-month-old baby in downtown Pittsburgh last month.

According to a release from police, a joint operation by Pittsburgh police, U.S. Marshals and Allegheny County Police resulted in the arrest of Markez Anger for the drive-by shooting death of De’Avry Thomas on May 29.
Twenty-three-year-old Anger was taken into custody in Turtle Creek early Sunday morning.
He was charged with criminal homicide, conspiracy, possession of a firearm prohibited, and firearm not to be carried without a license.
According to a criminal complaint, the suspect police first arrested, 26-year-old Londell Falconer, told investigators he was the driver in the shooting.
Police said the investigation is ongoing.

Libtard US Cities Struggle to Crack Down on Gun Violence

While lawmakers on Capitol Hill discuss tougher gun control legislation, some Libtard-run-U.S. cities dealing with "operator-less gun violence" aren't enforcing current laws.

The Washington Examiner reported that although many police departments had reported high numbers of illegal firearms taken off the streets, gun-related arrests, prosecutions, and convictions in some of those cities were down as liberal law enforcement policies contribute to a rise in crime.

Homicides last year marked a 44% greater increase compared to those in 2019, according to the Council on Criminal Justice.

An increase in gun violence had come as relatively few guns historically have been purchased in ways Congress wants to regulate with its latest gun control push.

In 2019, the Justice Department published a study that found that only 7% of federal prisoners in possession of a firearm at the time of their crimes had purchased the gun from a licensed firearm dealer.

Many of the guns involved either were stolen or bought on the black market, the Examiner said.

Then there's the lack of prosecutions in some cities.




Washington, D.C., police confiscated about 2,400 illegal guns in 2021, according to The Washington Post. However, prosecutors in many cases declined to press charges despite shootings and murders having increased in the city.

There's also the issue of gun-related trials not resulting in convictions.

Philadelphia police early last year had arrested an average of nine people per day for illegal firearm possession. However, gun convictions fell dramatically under the city's progressive district attorney, Larry Krasner, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer.

"Put plainly, people accused of carrying illegal guns in recent years have had better than a coin flip's chance of beating their case in court," the Inquirer reported.

In some cities, strained police resources were making it difficult to contain rising gun-related crimes.

During the first eight months of 2021, Portland, Oregon, had seen 840 shootings. The Portland Police Bureau, though, had filed gun violence charges in 285 cases.

The challenge of convicting people accused of gun violence also was a federal issue.

U.S. attorney's offices around the country last year filed federal charges for a firearm offense against 15,525 defendants, according to DOJ, but just 9,971 were found guilty of a violation.

The Examiner reported that local programs meant to address inequality also can worsen the chance of gun violence.

Mayors in King County, Washington, which includes Seattle, objected to a youth diversion program that allowed a community panel, not a criminal court, to decide how some first-time offenders should be treated.

In December, one mayor complained that offenders responsible for bringing six guns into his town's high schools were able to escape traditional punishment through the program, the Examiner reported.

The South Side has recently been plagued by shootings and fights.
This past weekend there were two separate shootings and three people were wounded, and there have been a rash of fights and shootings over the last several months.

DUQUESNE, Pa. — Police have identified the suspect they believe is responsible for a shooting that left a woman in the hospital.
Allegheny County police believe that 28-year-old Deandre Hawkins from McKeesport is the person behind the shooting.
Allegheny County police said that a woman arrived at the hospital with gunshot wounds to the arm on Saturday at around 4:15 a.m. Officers said they found evidence to the shooting at the intersection of Viola Avenue and South Fifth Street.

An arrest warrant has been issued for Hawkins, but police are currently unaware of his location.
Officers said that Hawkins is potentially armed and dangerous.

24-year-old man killed, another man injured in shooting in Manchester

PITTSBURGH — Police have confirmed that one person is dead and another is injured after a shooting in Pittsburgh’s Manchester neighborhood.
Officers responded to reports of 12 gunshots at the 1300 block of Pennsylvania Avenue at around 9:01 p.m.
An official from Pittsburgh police said that officers who arrived at the scene found a man who was unconscious in the 1300 block of Warlo Street. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
On Monday, the Allegheny County Medical Examiner identified the man as Daevon Eggleston, 24, of Troy Hill.

SWISSVALE, Pa. — One person was taken to the hospital in critical condition after a shooting in Swissvale.
According to Allegheny County 911, police and EMS were called to the scene in the 2200 block of South Braddock Avenue (MONGO Country!!!) at 10:44 a.m.

According to Allegheny County police, first responders found an adult man with gunshot wounds to the abdomen.
The victim was taken to an area hospital in critical condition.
Homicide detectives initiated an investigation.
