They have arrived
So tomorrow I will visit the radioshack in the steamtown mall and see if they have the adapter for the antenna. They are the only shack around with cb equipment and tend to specialize in it there. I want to get rechargeable batteries for them so I can keep them running if SHTF. They can be charged off one of those emergency radios or a vehicle. The only problem is the price. Four of the cheaper rayovac NIHM batteries are $15, and each radio takes NINE batteries. So thats $75 in batteries without the charger. I got the two radios off ebay (love it!) for $20 brand new. But I guess with adapter, cable, antennas and batteries this is a real investment. I will do some testing with them and FRS radios to see what differences I can see in performance. It shouldn't be much of a contest really, but Im very excited to see what these handhelds can do.
Ive had one before, different model, and it was pretty much LOS with contact. Still, 4 watts and a 6" whip compared to family bands 1 watt and 2" whip should be simple. Ill try to do several types of tests, including to vehicles and different types of terrain. Im also going to look for battery packs from cobra, see if I can go cheaper that way. They offer a charge cord separately so I imagine there has to be a battery pack.
Sorry for rambling, new toy
