Biden Tells Dems They Can Keep Seats and Win More in Midterms

With the Democratic Party bracing for huge losses in November's midterm elections, President Joe Biden told Thursday night's meeting of the Democratic National Committee that the party is "going to keep the House and keep the Senate – and add seats" if it only musters the enthusiasm it had in 2020.
The president also took the opportunity to tout his response to the coronavirus pandemic and the economy, according to the Washington Examiner.
During his introduction of Biden, DNC Chair Jaime Harrison said it was the committee's first in-person meeting in two years.

"We are back together because Democrats delivered," Harrison said, launching into a call and response with that catchphrase, mentioning everything from the COVID-19 vaccine rollout to the nomination of the first Black woman to the Supreme Court.
"Jaime just gave my speech," Biden joked, before he pretended to walk away from the podium.
As the Russian invasion of Ukraine intensifies and Americans are feeling the effects of 40-year high inflation, Biden told the more than 400 meeting attendees that we are in the "strongest position we've been here in months," the Examiner reports.
Repeating the claim that soaring gas prices are "Putin's price hikes at the pump," Biden cast all the blame for skyrocketing consumer prices onto Russian President Vladimir Putin, saying his actions in Ukraine, and not Biden's own policies, were responsible.
Talking about domestic energy production, the president said the real obstacles standing in the way are the oil companies themselves and "the bankers on Wall Street," not regulations his administration has enacted.
Biden gave his remarks on the eve of the anniversary of the nearly $2 trillion American Rescue Plan being signed into law.
Despite the head of the party's optimism, Democrats are bracing themselves for what's being forecast as an imminent thrashing by voters.

Democrats control the House by just five seats and, in the evenly split Senate, only Vice President Kamala Harris' tiebreaking vote ensures that it remains in Democrat hands.
It is expected that the party that occupies the White House will lose congressional seats in the first midterm election. In 1994, Democrats lost more than 50 House seats under former President Bill Clinton and more than 60 in 2010 under former President Barack Obama.
In the generic congressional ballot, Republicans lead by 2.8 percentage points in the RealClearPolitics polling average, and Biden's job approval ratings haven't hit 50% since August.
In Virginia, where Biden had won by 10 points, the GOP swept the statewide offices last November, and the party also performed well in New Jersey, where it made headway in the legislature and was highly competitive in the governor's race.
"As long as Democrats push Biden's failed agenda, they can expect to keep losing," Republican National Committee spokeswoman Emma Vaughn said in a statement before the president spoke. "Democrats up and down the ballot are in lockstep with Biden and will be held accountable for his failures in November."

oe Biden is supposed to be in charge, yet he doesn’t seem to understand what he’s even doing from moment to moment.

On Wednesday he pushed yet another claim that has no basis in reality – “a gallon of gas is down 14 percent today,” he declared.

The national average is up almost 17 cents from the day before, when it was $4.104 and the “highest in history.” So, rather than down, it’s hitting another highest in history number.

Once again, Biden doesn’t even have any idea of the truth.
His team has been trying to sell us all kinds of things that aren’t true – from blaming Vladimir Putin for the rise in gas prices (which have been going up since the election, long before Putin’s invasion of Ukraine) to trying to spin inflation numbers that just keep going up and up.
The memo has gone out now to all the Democrats to call the rise in prices “Putin’s price hike” — as though Americans aren’t able to remember beyond the last couple of weeks.

This decision today is not without costs here at home. Putin’s war is already hurting American families at the pump — and this will drive up costs further.
So, I will take every step we can to minimize Putin’s price hike here at home.

For months Putin has been saber-rattling, and for months gas prices have been going up – up 75 cents since he began his military build-up.

Then White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki tried to sell a bunch of malarkey about inflation during her briefing on Wednesday, that numbers were going down “month to month.”

Yet, CNBC’s Rick Santelli completely took apart Psaki with a little reality.

Their answer to the crushing inflation numbers has been to cheerlead even more spending, and to blame companies for price gouging, just like they are doing now with the rise in gas prices. Nothing is ever their fault, and they never have an answer for any of the issues–indeed, they’ve made the issues worse. You know that the number that’s going to come in later this week must be awful if – after months of being wrong about their predictions – they’re finally predicting it’s going to come in high.
But they are completely lost, both literally and figuratively. We keep saying that Biden’s condition is concerning, but it just keeps getting worse. Here’s Biden Wednesday, seemingly lost trying to find his way off the stage; he doesn’t even know where he’s going.

He looks like he’s looking for help or his handler, but none of the handlers seem to be on the spot, so he’s just left to wallow, confused and looking around. He finally finds his way to the stairs.
This is elder abuse, but none of his handlers seem to give a darn about it or the danger that this poses both to him and the country. This is what leaders around the world are seeing, and you wonder why you have bad actors like Putin and Xi making noises all around the world. I look at this and say: how are we ever going to make it through three more years with this guy? We’ve already seen how bad the first year has been, and it’s concerning that it’s likely to get even worse as he deteriorates.

Joe Biden may not have the physical stamina to travel overseas and fulfill his duties regarding foreign policy, but he did manage to give public remarks on Friday. In them, the president slammed Americans for blaming him for the current inflation boom, proclaiming he’s “sick of it” and that “it’s just not true” that his policies have exacerbated the problem.


Perhaps getting angry and yelling at people who vote isn’t the best political strategy?

In fact, it is completely true that government spending has largely led to the inflationary pressures nailing American families right now. There’s a reason U.S. inflation has been 2-3 percent higher than European inflation over the last year, depending on which month you compare. Joe Biden and his party pushed through a COVID “relief” bill along partisan lines that extended unemployment, sent out checks, and injected way too much funny money into an already overheated economy.
That’s how you get record inflation. The 7.9 percent number we saw in February was not simply a product of organic demand due to the coronavirus waning. Sure, there was always going to be some inflation, but it was never going to be this high without government intervention. For Biden to now pretend everyone but him is to blame is cowardly and dishonest. This is not “Putin’s price hike.” It’s “Joe Biden’s price hike.”

Never fear, though, Biden brought clips from the New York Times to make his argument.

I don’t know about you, but I’m convinced. If economists like Paul Krugman, a man who has been wrong about nearly every economic issue of the last three decades, says Biden is in the clear, then that’s that.
Seriously, though, doesn’t it feel like the White House’s messaging is starting to crack? They’ve clearly got no real answer to the inflation problem, and instead of at least feigning a solution, they are just doubling down on shouting about Russia and hoping no one notices how much gas was before Ukraine was invaded. At some point, a politician who never takes responsibility for anything just comes across as pathetic, and to be sure, there have been Republicans who have fallen into that trap.
Contrary to conventional wisdom, never admitting blame is not always a winning political strategy, especially when things are objectively bad. Many voters appreciate a leader who says “that didn’t work, we are going to try something else.” But Biden is so stubborn and egomaniacal that he will never do that. He’d rather run the entire country off a cliff than stray from his far-left ideology, and that’s assuming he’s even in control of his own administration.

Case in point? In the same remarks, he decided to also lie about oil production in the United States.

The idea that oil companies just don’t want to pump more and sell more is asinine. Rather, the reason oil companies aren’t rushing to up production is almost solely due to government regulation and interference. It’s not enough to just have the rights to a federal lease (and the profitability of leases vary wildly). The investments needed to put the infrastructure in place to produce more range into the tens of billions. Why would an oil company take that kind of enormous financial risk in the current environment? What happens a year from now when Biden decides, on a whim, to shut down more leases? Or close down more pipelines? Are you starting to see the problem?
That brings me back to my point about Biden being so married to his ideology. Real leadership in this situation would be admitting he was wrong about oil and gas production, and then doing everything possible to incentivize it. That includes long-term guarantees to spurn investment, and fast-tracking the permit processes.

Biden isn’t a real leader, though, so we get what we get, which are skyrocketing gas prices and budget-crushing inflation on goods and services. One can only hope American voters hold him and his party accountable in November

Joe Biden has shown – time and time again – that he has no compunction against lying if it means shifting the blame away from himself. We mentioned some of his lying about inflation earlier.


We’ve seen him blame everyone and everything else, rather than take the blame and take the right steps to address it. His latest excuse is Vladimir Putin, despite the fact that inflation has been raging for several months, long before Putin invaded Ukraine at the end of February. He was speaking at the House Democrats Conference in Philadelphia, and he repeated the lie, saying inflation was “largely the fault of Putin.”

Does he think that Americans have been asleep through all the prior months of raging inflation? That he can just put one over on them? This hits Americans right in the pocket. This has made it more challenging for many Americans just to be able to afford the basic necessities.
But what took a lot of nerve from Joe Biden is how he insulted Americans when he talked with House Democrats. Listen to what he tells them.

“The American people just trying to stay above water don’t understand this,” he said, about what the Democrats did with the American Rescue Plan. “You tell them what the American Recovery Act [referencing something passed under Barack Obama in 2009] is and they look at you like, ‘What are you talking about?'”

This is what he thinks about us — that we’re not capable of understanding even those basic things. Somehow, we just don’t understand how wonderful he’s made everything for us, as we’re being crushed under the Bidenflation boot. If you think you’re struggling, you’re just imagining it. The problem for him of course is that we do understand, and that’s what he can’t stand.
As far as “understanding,” Biden doesn’t even seem to be able to understand how to even get a sentence out without getting lost in the middle of it, while having no idea what he is saying.

Biden claimed that the American Rescue Plan, the $1.9 trillion law signed last year, didn’t cause inflation.

But economists beg to differ, and point to that spending as a driving factor behind the inflation surge. Even Steven Rattner, a former Treasury Department official under the Obama administration, has said that this isn’t on Putin, it’s on Biden, and he needs to own it.

He also had previously noted that it can be traced back to the “original sin” of the American Rescue Plan and the massive spending by Biden, writing in a November 2021, New York Times op-ed.

“The original sin was the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan, passed in March. The bill – almost completely unfunded – sought to counter the effects of the COVID pandemic by focusing on demand-side stimulus rather than on investment. That has contributed materially to today’s inflation levels.”

Yet, Biden is still pushing even more spending, and refusing to acknowledge this because he knows it would put the skids on his further spending ambitions. That’s why he’ll blame everything else but the real cause. So, either he’s evil and wants to impose more suffering. Or he’s the one who “doesn’t understand” here, and he’s going to find out how well Americans understand in November.
